Rental Conditions in Panama

The rental is subject to the following age requirements:

Drivers under 25 years old are subject to an Under Age Fee of USD 5.00 per day.

Minimum age required:

23 years old as an additional driver, provided the main driver is 25 years or older (both the additional driver fee and the underage fee apply).

25 years old when renting with MasterCard or Visa.

An International credit card on the renter’s name and accepted by Avis will be required at the time of rental.

Avis Panama accepts:

✓MasterCard

✓Visa

Please note that the credit card must have the renter's name and numbers embossed on it.

Physical credit cards that are not close to their expiration date must be presented; otherwise, delivery of the vehicle may be refused.

A valid driver’s license from the renter’s country of residence is required.
An International Driving Permit is only necessary for licenses issued in countries that use a non-Roman alphabet.
Please note that an International Driving Permit serves solely as an official translation and does not replace the original license.

Each additional driver (including spouse) must be registered by the renter at the rental counter prior to driving the vehicle.  
All additional drivers must meet Avis driving requirements and be present when registered.  

If an additional driver is registered during the rental, the Avis vehicle must also be brought to the location for inspection. 

The additional driver fee is USD 5.00 plus tax per day for each additional driver.

At the time of rental we will charge the customer’s credit card for the estimated rental amount (or any extra charge not included in the Voucher, such as, gas, insurance deductible, etc.).
An additional credit card hold will be required to complete the rental.

The credit card amount will be between USD 300.00 up to USD 5,000.00 depending on car group rented and coverage selected.

While the hold is in place the funds will not be available for use.
When the rental is over Avis will process the reversal but the bank may take time to post it back to the account.

To be guaranteed, reservations for all car groups must include the customer’s charge card number, expiration date and billing address.  

A No-Show fee of USD 75.00 will apply if the reservation is cancelled with less than 48 hour advance notice or if the customer does not rent the vehicle within 12 hours of reserved time.

This is an Additional Protection for Third Party Liability.
ALI covers all authorized drivers under the Rental Agreement against third-party claims for bodily injury, death, or property damage caused by the use or operation of an Avis vehicle.
This protection increases the liability limits up to USD 300,000.00, according to the Terms and Conditions of the Rental Agreement.

ALI has an additional cost of USD 6.00 per day for all vehicle groups.

LDW (Loss Damage Waiver) relieves the customer of all financial responsibility in case of damage or loss of the Avis vehicle due to collision or theft, as long as the customer complies with the Terms and Conditions of the rental agreement.
This protection has an additional cost, and the amount varies according to the selected vehicle group.

Damages caused by vandalism, fire, partial theft, or any other events explicitly excluded in the rental agreement are not covered, and the customer remains fully liable for the vehicle in such situations

The applicable value appears in the table below.

Third Party Liability covers injury or death to a third party (persons outside the Avis vehicle).
Property Damage covers damage to third-party property, excluding the Avis vehicle and any belongings of the renter, the driver, or the passengers.

This protection covers Third Party Liability up to USD 10,000.00.

TP (Theft Protection Waiver) is included in LDW and provides coverage only for total theft of the vehicle, as long as the customer complies with the Terms and Conditions of the rental agreement.

With PDW coverage, protection applies only to total theft, subject to the corresponding deductible.

With LDW coverage, protection for total theft applies with no deductible, provided the customer complies with the Terms and Conditions of the rental agreement.

Under this protection, the renter is responsible for paying a deductible. 

The deductible amount depends on the selected vehicle group and is detailed in the table below. 

To apply this coverage, the renter must comply with the terms and conditions of the rental agreement.

Purchase of PAI provides accidental death and medical expense benefits to the renter and all passengers in the vehicle under the terms and conditions of the insurance policy.

Benefits:

✓ Medical expenses per occupant (up to the maximum capacity established by manufacturer) USD 5,000.00
✓ Death of driver USD 25,000.00
✓ Death of each passenger (up to the maximum capacity established by the manufacturer) USD 25,000.00

The daily cost of PAI varies by vehicle group and is indicated in the table below

PEP provides coverage for personal effects inside the rental vehicle, up to a limit of USD 1,000.00, with a deductible of USD 50.00.
This protection has a daily cost of USD 3.50 plus taxes.

TCW relieves the customer of all financial responsibility for any of the damages described, up to USD 1,000.00, provided that the renter complies with the Terms and Conditions of the rental agreement.

Fuel is not included in the rates.

A full tank of gas is provided at the time of rental and the vehicle should be returned with a full tank of gas to avoid additional charges.

There are no refunds for unused gas.

Cars may be driven one-way between the following city pairs. The corresponding drop-off fee applies in each direction:

✓Panama City - David: USD 180.00 — Distance: 486 km

✓Panama City - Changuinola: USD 255.00 — Distance: 635 km

✓Panama City - Chitré: USD 125.00 — Distance: 170 km

✓Chitré - David: USD 145.00 — Distance: 226 km

✓Chitré - Changuinola: USD 185.00 — Distance: 281 km

✓David - Changuinola: USD 95.00 — Distance: 196 km

Cars are not allowed outside of Panama.

Not applicable. Avis cars rented in Panama are not allowed to travel outside the country.

Child Safety Seats (CSS) are available on request at a cost of USD 5.95 per day and USD 41,65 per week
Customer must advise of age and weight of child.

An advance reservation of 48 hours is recommended.

Roadside Assistance covers situations such as lost keys or keys locked inside the vehicle, towing services, tire replacement due to damage, battery jump-start or recharge, and fuel delivery if the customer runs out of gasoline while on the road.
Response time depends on the customer’s location.

WIFI is available on REQUEST at all locations. at a cost of USD 12.95 per day.
A fee of USD 150.00 will apply for any damages or loss of the device.
