Age information

The minimum age is 21 years. There is no maximum age.

Avis accepts all major credit cards:

Please note that the credit card must have the renter's name and numbers embossed on it.

At the time of rental we will request an authorization on your charge card for the estimated rental charges, plus a deposit.

Cash Rentals are not allowed for rental or payment.

Driver's License (Physical)

A valid driver’s license from the country of residence is mandatory.
An international driving license is required for countries with a non-Roman alphabet.

Debit card

Debit cards are not accepted.

Additional Drivers

All drivers must meet the same minimum age and driver’s license requirements as the renter.
Any additional driver must be present at the time of rental to sign the additional driver’s form.

The additional driver fee is USD 10.00 per day for each additional driver.

No show / Cancellation policy

Reservations for all car groups will be honored up to 8 hours after the reserved time or until closing, whichever comes first.

Important

Avis and Avis licensees reserve the right to refuse any request for rental including requests for persons under age, persons not in possession of a recognized full and valid driver's license, persons unable to satisfy credit or cash requirements, or persons who, in the opinion of Avis, constitute a risk.

Insurances & Coverages

ALI - Additional Liability Insurance

ALI provides coverage up to USD 50,000.00 in case of bodily injury and/or property damage to a third party (excluding the renter and/or driver of the Avis vehicle) without deductible, provided the customer complies with all terms and conditions of the rental agreement.

An official report issued by the police must be shown in order to apply this coverage.

LDW - Loss Damage Waiver

Buying the LDW relieves the customer's financial responsibility for damage to the Avis vehicle in the event of an accident or theft, provided the customer complies with all the terms and conditions of the rental agreement.

The protection covers a total loss of the rented vehicle and damage to the bodywork, glass and tires. LDW does not cover for damages or losses caused by negligence. An official report issued by the police must be shown in order to apply this coverage.

TPL - Third Party Liability

Third Party Liability coverage of up to GTQ 100,000.00 in case of bodily injury and/or property damage to a third party (excludes renter and/or driver of the Avis vehicle) is included in the rates with a deductible of USD 700.00.

The customer may be fully waived of this deductible with the purchase CDW.

PDW - Partial Damage Waiver

Purchase of PDW or reduces the renters financial liability, Non-Waivable Excess (NWE), in the event of an accident or theft, involving the Avis vehicle provided the customer complies with all terms and conditions of the rental agreement to USD 2,000.00 on all car groups.

If not purchased the customer is liable for the full value of the Avis vehicle. Theft protection is included with a non-waivable excess of 20% of the value of the vehicle rented. PDW does not cover damage to windshields, windows, mirrors, rings, or tires. An official report issued by the police must be shown in order to apply this coverage.

PAI - Personal Accident Insurance

PAI provides coverage up to USD 12,500.00 for medical expenses caused to the people who are inside it, the amount is due for the number of seats in the vehicle up to a maximum amount of USD 3,125.00 per person.

WTC - Windshield and Tire Coverage

Purchase of WTC relieves the customer’s financial responsibility for damages for the breakage of windshields, windows and tires of the rented vehicle, without deductible. WTC does not cover damage to the mirrors and the rings of the car.

Additional charges

Fuel and Electricity Charges

A full tank of gas is provided at the time of rental and the vehicle should be returned with a full tank of gas to avoid additional charges.

One Way rentals

One way rentals are subject to request and availability.
In addition to one-way fees, Border Crossing Permits will apply for all countries that allow cross border travel.

Delivery and collection

Delivery and collection is available free of charge within Guatemala City only. The customer must request the service at the time of booking and reconfirm it at the destination.

Driving restrictions

Cross the border

Cars can be driven into the following countries if returned to Guatemala:

1 Payment for permit:

✓Honduras, El Salvador &/or Nicaragua: USD 30,00 + VAT
✓Belize: USD 150,00 + VAT.

Permits are required for all countries noted and are issued at the Avis counter.

Optional services and equipment

Child Safety Seats

Child Safety Seat – are available, the cost is USD 5.00 per day and USD 200.00 if lost or stolen.
Please provide age and weight of child.

An advance reservation of 24 hours is recommended.

All costs for special equipment are subject to taxes and surcharges.

GPS

Navigation System – is available, the cost is USD 13.00 per day and USD 200.00 if lost or stolen.
