The minimum age is 19 years. A higher minimum age limit may apply to certain vehicles.
Car groups L, M, O, N and P require a minimum age of 25 years.

An underage fee will apply for renters and any of the drivers aged 21-24. The cost will depend on the rental location, but it usually varies between EUR 20.95 and EUR 25.00 per day, for each driver.

If the rental is longer than 10 days, renter will only be charged for a maximum of 10 days and get cover for the duration of the rental, up to 28 days.

The renter will be required to present an international credit card at his name accepted by Avis at the time of rental.

If booking categories K, L, M and O, it will be necessary to present 2 valid credit cards in the name of the reserve holder.

Avis Spain accepts American Express (excluding American Express Traveler’s Cheque cards), Diners, Discover, Visa, MasterCard, Avis-issued charge cards.

Avis Spain does not accept Maestro, Cirrus, JCB, any pre-paid cards – even if they carry the Visa or MasterCard logo – or any other cards not listed above.

Avis will request an authorization on the charge card. While this hold is in place the funds will not be available for use. When the rental is over Avis will process the reversal but the bank may take time to post it back to the account.

The amount of the pre-authorization or security deposit is either fixed – or calculated based on:

The estimated vehicle rental price
Plus the estimated price of all optional extras the renter requested.
Plus around EUR 120.00 to allow for any fuel customer may use unless he has purchased Fuel up Front.
Less any amount that the customer has paid towards the rental – for example, the cost of any accepted voucher

All Drivers must bring all parts of their valid driving license with them.
If the driving license was issued in a non-European country or in a non-roman alphabet, the customer must bring both the driving license and an International Diving License.

Additional Drivers

All additional drivers must meet Avis age, driving license and ID requirements. All additional drivers must be present at time of pick-up of the rental vehicle.

There is a fee for every Additional Driver Avis allows driving the vehicle. The price depends on the rental location, but it is usually between EUR 10.00 and EUR 12.00 per day, per driver.

If the rental is longer than 10 days, renter will only be charged for a maximum of 10 days and get cover for the duration of the rental, up to 28 days.

If any additional driver is 21-24 years of age, Avis will also charge a young-driver surcharge.

Smoke free cars

It is against the law to smoke in public places in Spain. The vehicle is considered a public place so it is not allowed to smoke in it. If Avis believes that anyone has smoked in the vehicle during the rental period, a specialist cleaning charge will apply.

If the interior of the vehicle is especially muddy, dirty, stained or smelly, and Avis standard cleaning procedure will not fix it, renter will be charged a Specialist Cleaning Charge of EUR 80.00

Important

Avis and Avis licensees reserve the right to refuse any request for rental including requests for persons under age, persons not in possession of a recognized full and valid driver's license, persons unable to satisfy credit or cash requirements, or persons who, in the opinion of Avis, constitute a risk.

TPL - Third Party Liability

Third Party Liability (TPL) cover is provided with the vehicle as standard. This means that if the renter has an accident in our vehicle and he injures someone, including any of his passengers, or he damages anything which belongs to them, he will not have to pay any of their costs.

Third Party Liability cover does not cover any death or injury suffered by the driver of our vehicle or any damage to personal items in our vehicle.

If the law requires us to provide renter with third party liability cover, the minimum cover required by law will still apply but we, or our insurer, may seek to recover our costs from the renter if the accident was caused by:

By the renter breaking the contract (for example allowing someone we had not approved drive the vehicle of driving whilst under the influence of alcohol, drugs or any other unlawful substance).
By the renter breaking the law.
As a result of the renter’s negligence or recklessness.

TP - Theft Protection

If TP is not purchased or is not included in the rate, in case of theft the customer will be responsible for the total value of the rental car, keys, any accessories and any vehicle documents plus the loss of profit and an administrative fee.

If TP is purchased and the vehicle is stolen, the amount he will have to pay will be reduced to no more than the excess stated on the rental agreement, which will depend on the car group and the rental location.

In case PAI is not purchased, if the driver of the vehicle is involved in an accident and is injured or dies, we will not pay their costs. If any personal items in the vehicle are damaged, lost or stolen, we will not pay for their repair or replacement.

Additional charges

Fuel and Electricity Charges

The vehicle will normally be supplied with a full tank of fuel. Renter must return the vehicle with the same amount of fuel it had in it when he picked it up – usually a full tank – as shown on the factory-installed fuel gauge.
We recommend to fill up as close to the return location as possible on the return date, and keep the receipt to show us. If customer does not return the vehicle with a full tank – and can’t show us a receipt for fuel – we will charge him.

FUEL OPTIONS

FUEL UP FRONT: renter can pay for a full tank of fuel, based on the manufacturer's stated fuel tank capacity for the rented vehicle – plus our costs of refueling the vehicle. Then renter just returns the vehicle with whatever’s left in the tank (even if it’s virtually empty) so long as the engine still runs. If renter wants to buy Fuel Up Front, he must ask for and buy it at time of rental

How do I calculate the cost of Fuel Up Front?
Depending on the rental location, we charge the average fuel price at the start of the rental period – as stated on this EU fuel index: Click here. However, renter will not get a refund for any fuel he does not use.

If renter drives less than 120 kilometers Avis will apply EZ fuel?
Often the fuel gauges stills look “full” so Avis asks customers to fill up the tank near the return location and show a copy of the receipt when returning the vehicle. If the customer doesn’t have time to fill up the tank, or can’t show a receipt, Avis will apply EZ Fuel to cover refueling costs.
EZ Fuel cost can vary depending on the rental location. It is generally a fix fee of between EUR 14.00 and EUR 18.00.

Pay on Return will apply if renter has driven more than 120 kilometers and:

Doesn`t buy Fuel Up Front.
Doesn´t return the vehicle with a full tank.

He will pay for fuel based on the factory-installed fuel gauge rounded down to the nearest eighth (1/8) of a tank. This is based on the manufacturer’s stated fuel tank capacity.
We charge the average fuel price at the end of the rental period for Spain – as stated on this EU fuel index: Click here.
The price per litre will be stated on the rental agreement –plus a processing fee of EUR 27.59.
This charge covers Avis cost of driving to the nearest petrol station at short notice, and potentially delaying the next customer’s rental.

Additional information

Late / Early return charge

If customer wants to extend the rental he should contact us as soon as possible. At the latest, this should be before the end date and time on the rental agreement. Extra days will be charged at ‘pay at location’ prices.

If customer fails to extend the rental and is late returning the vehicle, Avis will charge him for an extra day’s rental plus a late return administration fee for each day or part of a day until the vehicle is returned.

If renter fails to extend the rental and are late returning the vehicle, we will on the third day after the agreed return date pre-authorize payment for an additional 10 days’ rental charge on the customer’s credit card, at “pay at location' prices. If he returns the vehicle within those 10 days, he will only be charged for the actual rental days, plus any other charges he owes us.

If customer fails to return the vehicle as agreed, Avis will also charge him a late return administration fee for each day or part of a day until the vehicle is returned. The late return administration fee is EUR 15.00 per day.

One Way rentals

Some rental locations let renters collect the vehicle and any optional extras from one rental location and return them to another within mainland Spain (One way rentals).
The price depends on the rental location and the car group rented.
If renter wants to pick up the vehicle and return it to a different location in the same country, he can expect it to be between EUR 49.00 and EUR 89.00.

One-way rentals from/to the Spanish Islands are not permitted.

If customer wants to pick up the vehicle in one country and drop it off in another country, an International One-way rental fee will be charged, which varies depending on the country and the car group rented, but it might be between EUR 350.00 and EUR 4.733.00. The cost will be informed when making a reservation.
