Age information

The minimum age is 25 for all car groups. The minimum age for renters with prepaid travel vouchers is 21. The maximum age is 70 years.

An underage fee of USD 5.00 per day (plus taxes) will apply to drivers 21-24 age.

Note: the minimum age for car groups Luxury, SUVs and Pickups are 25 for all renters, even with a travel voucher.

NOTE: Diners Club and Discover cards are ONLY accepted as final payment.  The credit card and the contract must be with the name of the same person and that person must be present at the time of rental.  

 

Please note that the credit card must have the renter's name and numbers embossed on it.

 

Physical credit cards that are not close to their expiration date must be presented; otherwise, delivery of the vehicle may be refused

Driver's License (Physical)

At the time of rental, the driver must present a passport and a valid driver’s license in the driver’s name from his/her country of residence. The renter must be present and all documentation must be from the same country of origin.

Customers presenting a driver’s license in a non-Roman alphabet must also present an International Driving Permit (IDP) to serve as a translation in addition to their valid driver’s license.

Additional Drivers

All drivers must meet the same minimum age and driver’s license requirements as the primary driver.
An additional driver fee of USD 5.00 plus taxes per day per additional driver will apply.

Hold Amount

Additional charge card hold: All rentals will require a deposit of two HOLDs on the credit card, one of the value of the total rental amount plus 20% and if CDW coverage is accepted.

If CDW is declined, the customer is liable for full value of the vehicle.

At the beginning of the rental, a valid credit card is required for a minimum hold of USD 1,500.00 for non-waivable excess, in addition to the estimated rental charges. 

The customer’s credit card will be charged for any damage incurred during the rental, any details required must be submitted to the counter.

NOTE: For the hold, American Express, MasterCard and Visa are accepted.

CDW is mandatory for specialty car groups (G, K, L and M). See the amounts in the following table:

Some credit cards provide insurance coverage, with certain limitations, as a benefit of using the card to rent vehicles. 

The customer is advised to contact the card issuer before the rental and request written proof of the coverage to be presented at the counter.

Note: this should be from the credit card company on official letterhead noting they will specifically extend CDW coverage in the Dominican Republic.

No show / Cancellation policy

Reservations are honored until 8 hours in low season, 6 hours in medium season and 2 hours in High Pick season. 

 

Customer must call station and advise in case of delay arrive to can keep for long time the unit reserve.

Important

Avis and Avis licensees reserve the right to refuse any request for rental including requests for persons under age, persons not in possession of a recognized full and valid driver's license, persons unable to satisfy credit or cash requirements, or persons who, in the opinion of Avis, constitute a risk.

Insurances & Coverages

CDW - Collition Damage Waiver

CDW is optional  except on group G, K, L and M

Purchase reduces the financial responsibility of the vehicle in case of damage to the car (unless damages were from abuse, distraction, speed excess or negligence). If damage or theft occurs due to neglect (driving and texting, under the effects of alcohol, parking in unsafe places, leaving the vehicle open, etc.) the protection is invalidated.

If LDW is declined, the customer is advised to contact the credit card company before the rental and MUST get written proof on official letterhead noting that they will specifically extend LDW coverage inside the Dominican Rep. This letter MUST be presented at the counter at the time of rental. An additional hold will apply, depending on the selected vehicle and the rental days, use chart below for cost per day and deductible:

In case of an incident/accident, the customer to make a present a transit report explaining the incident/accident to validate the coverage. 


The coverage just applies if the incident/accident occurred with a movable object. Intentional damage or other damages, when customer cannot demonstrate how the car was damaged, could be charged, despite having chosen LDW/CDW.

 

Loss of Use - Counter Sale Only.  Covers the time the vehicle is being repaired when the location cannot rent out the vehicle. The customer must check with the counter on pricing and for additional details at time of checkout.

RSN - Road Safety NET

Service is available at all locations at USD 2.50 per day.

TPL - Third Party Liability

Third party coverage provides assistance to the customer in case of accident / incident that affects a third person or property, providing legal assistance and reducing liability in legal cases.

SLI - Supplemental Liability Insurance

Provides an increase in coverage and legal assistance in situations presented during the rental time whom affects third parties or other property with the vehicle.
This protection is not usually available by the credit card.

Additional charges

Fuel and Electricity Charges

Fuel is not included in the rates.  

 

Vehicles must choose the Prepaid Gas Option or return with a full tank to avoid a refueling charge.  

 

There are no refunds for the Prepaid Gas Option.

Additional information

Late / Early return charge

Are available on request.
Car must be returned before 11.00 pm at all airports, except SDQ, which is open 24 hours.
Check hours for non-airport locations.

After hour returns are not allowed at locations: N6M, SD5, PU3, P9P, RD5 or X3D

One Way rentals

Cars can be returned to other Avis locations within this country.  Fees vary according to distance between locations.  

One-way fees may apply to any special equipment rented.  

Vehicles are not available for one-way rentals outside of this country.

Miscellaneous

Reservations are honored:

for 8 hours in Low Season (April 1st to July 14 and September 1st to November 19) 
for 6 hours in Medium Season (July15 to August 31 and November 20 to December 15) 
for 2 hours in High Pick Season (December 16 to March 31) 

In case of delay, customer must call the station and advise of the newapproximate arrival time to retain the reservation.

Availability on holidays and high season: On holidays and high season months there may be occasions where the availability of the units are affected by high demand, we recommend that our clients book at least 48 hours in advance.

In the event that any delay may occur by the time of your arrival at the service station, our staff will ensure you always the reserved unit, or similar category in the shortest possible time.

We remind you that our brands offer categories, not models or specific vehicles so the image shown on the associated websites may vary by the time of arrival.

 

If the customer wishes to extend the rental, customer must contact Budget as soon as possible. 
 

At the latest, this must be before the end date and time on the rental agreement. 

Additional days will be charged at current location prices and an extension administration fee subject to contract negotiation at the Budget office. 

Rental Extension Fee: USD 10 per day for each extended day.

Delivery and collection

This service is available on request.
For delivery and collection, a charge will apply depending on the distance from the Avis renting location. Please contact the AVIS rental location to arrange and for cost details.

Delivery and pick-up service is available without extra charges: from/to hotels inthese areas: Bayahibe Hotels (La Romana), La Marina-Seaport (any address insideCasa de Campo), Muelle la Marina (Romana), Punta Cana / Bavaro, Puerto Plata,Santo Domingo and Santiago.

Customer must advise the delivery and collection services previously or at thearrival’s moment to make rental.

Avis cars rented in Dominican Republic are not allowed to travel outside the country.
